Flurregeln

This section contains basic rules for any household and some special rules for E4. We also have a floor group chat - look at the blackboard in the kitchen for information to join! Just ask someone (if they haven’t asked you already) for a tour of the floor and the HaDiKo in general.

General

  • Broken or Not Fully Functional Items: If anything is broken or not fully functional, fix it immediately or at least inform your room mates about it. If there is damage and you fail to report it asap, you are liable for any all follow-up damages by German law, even if you are not responsible for the original damage. This is especially true for any water-related damages. You already signed a contract about this (§7.2 in your rental contract). If you use broken or not fully functional items, you are also responsible for any follow-up damage (In particular, this also applies to using the washing machine and the dryer).
  • Usage of Communal Rooms and Items: If you use any communal rooms (kitchen, bathroom, etc.) you must leave it at least as clean as you found it. The same applies to the items therein. This is also part of the rental contract you signed when moving into HaDiKo. Violating this is one of the few things that can get you kicked out (§7.4 in your rental contract). If you see something left dirty, please send a picture in the group chat to inform everyone and create awareness.
  • Floor Meeting: At the floor meeting, we talk about (new) important information concerning HaDiKo, discuss the situation on the floor and decide about new floor rules, projects or acquisitions. Therefore, attending the floor meeting is mandatory. If you do not attend, don’t complain about decisions you do not agree with.
  • Floor Cleaning: Floor Cleaning is an activity during which all communal rooms and items of the floor are cleaned. This includes for example the spaces behind the oven, the toilets and the showers. This takes place at least once per semester. Participating in the floor cleaning is mandatory. If you cannot attend, send a plausible excuse to the floor speaker before the event.
  • Household Items: Household items such as dish soap, laundry powder, sponges, baking paper and kitchen trash bags are financed and provided by us. This is part of the reason for the floor tax. Toilet paper is provided by the cleaning personnel. If we run out of something, write it in on the blackboard or in the group chat. Use the items economical and especially do not take them to your room.
  • Back Door: This is the door towards the P-wing. If you want to ventilate the floor, you of course can open it. But use shock ventilation instead of airing the floor for hours, especially in the winter, as it cools out.
  • Disturbances: If you want to drill for a longer period of time or you have a party, please let the floor know in advance (just write in the group chat).
  • Floor Finances: Currently, ELIAS E406 is responsible for the floor finances. This means he manages the money collection of the floor tax and the BIMI-Expenses. If you want to know how much you owe the floor, check the BiMi-App on the blackboard in the kitchen. Please pay quickly, so the floor is solvent at all times.
  • Floor Tax: This is the money needed to buy all the household items and pay for the Rundfunkbeitrag. Currently, this is 4,50 EURO per month.
  • Cleaning Personnel: Usually once a week, our floor is cleaned by cleaning personnel. Having said that, this is not an excuse to not clean up your own mess! The cleaning includes the kitchen counters, the kitchen floor, the hallway floor and the bathroom. However, they only clean and do not tidy up. This means that obstructed spaces (e.g. the hallway is full with stuff) will not get cleaned.
  • Hallway: As the hallway is an escape route, it is not allowed to store anything there (except your shoes, if they are in the recess of your door). If you store there something nevertheless, the janitor may take it and you have to pay a bail to get it back.
  • HaDiKo Wiki: For everything outside E4, please consult this wiki.

Kitchen

  • Stove: If something spills over while you are using the stove, clean the stove.
  • Ceranfeld: The oven on the right has a Ceranfeld (that’s literally made of glass). So be careful while using and cleaning it. If there is burnt in dirt, use the Ceranfeld-Scraper (on the right wall next to the stove) to remove it.
  • Oven: If something spilled over, dropped down etc., clean it completely. This also applies to the baking rack and tray. The right oven has a drawer on the bottom in which unused baking racks and trays are stored. Never put them dirty in!
  • After you finished washing your dishes, immediately wipe them dry and put them back in the closet: Since 12 other people also would like to put their freshly washed dishes somewhere until they clean the rest of their dishes, you cannot let them sit on the side of the sink. The side of the sink is intended as a temporary option where you put your dishes while you clean them, and not as a place to let them dry. This rules holds true even if it is “just one little spoon” and you intend to “only let it dry for a little bit” as you “will be back shortly”.
  • Never let your dishes soak in the sink: If you really want to let your dishes soak, you have to take them to your room.
  • Always wash out the sponge after use and squeeze the water out: If you finished cleaning your dishes, please wash the sponge out (so it is almost clean again). Do this by squeezing the sponge repeatedly under flowing water. Then squeeze the sponge out one final time to get rid of the excess water. Why: If the sponges are clean and dry between usages, they don’t rot as fast. Therefore, we need less sponges (money saved) and they are not as disgusting.
  • Always clean out the sink after you washed your dishes: Even if it’s only one lentil. Your mom is not around anymore to clean up after you, so get used to do it yourself. Also, don’t empty it into the drain, but the trash instead (biological waste).
  • Unattended Items: The following rules affect only dishes which are no longer in use (e.g. dishes while cooking are fine). If you do not want to wash your dishes immediately, take them to your room. Do not let them sit in the kitchen.
  • Furniture in the Kitchen: All furniture in the kitchen belongs to the floor; there is no privately owned furniture in the kitchen.
  • Storage Space: All storage space has to bee assigned by a floor meeting. This includes for example the fridges, freezers and shelves. Do not just “annex” space. You can identify your own storage space by the labels with floor numbers on them.
  • Floor Items: Everything outside assigned store space is floor property and may be used by everyone. Make sure to clean it and put it back where you found it.
  • Surfaces: If you use a surface and soil it, clean it with soap and a sponge cloth.
  • Ventilation: You of course may open windows for ventilation. Only make sure that the radiator is turned off when opening a window and use shock ventilation rather than airing for hours.
  • Turn off light and entertainment: When you are the last person leaving the kitchen (especially in the night), turn of the lights and the entertainment systems, so we reduce costs and insects in the kitchen.
  • Free Spices, Onions and Garlic: The floor offers spices, onlions and galic from the floor tax. Feel free to use them for cooking, but only in plausible quantities. If you need 20 onions for your dish, buy them yourself.
  • Trash: We separate the trash. If you do not know where to put something, look at the table on the left side of the window.

Bathroom

  • Toilets: The first toilet (closet to the entrance) is for standing, the second toilet (closer to the windows) is for sitting only. While you may sit on the first toilet, never use the second toilet standing.
  • Pooping: Before you poop, please close the door to the hallway so it does not smell like poop there. Always use the toilet brush after pooping and open at least one window.
  • Toilet Paper: Toilet paper is usually resupplied on Mondays by the cleaning personnel. Like all other household items, do not take toilet paper to your room.
  • Washing Machine: Only use the washing machine after introduction by one of your neighbors. If you are doing laundry, put a container for your clothes next to the washing machine. The green container (floor property) is also fine. Do not put anything into the washing machine that could bash against the drum.
  • Preparation and Follow-Up-Work: Before washing, check if the right sink is empty and water can drain. After washing, check if something now is clogged in the drain filter or simply in the sink (like hair or dirt) and put these things in the garbage. This can happen when the washing machine pumps out all wastewater, but the solid parts are too big or heavy to get washed away.
  • Dryer: Only use the dryer after introduction by one of your neighbors.
  • Preparation and Follow-Up-Work: Before and after using the dryer, empty out both the water container and the link filter. If you do not know how to do this or where they are, aks someone and do not use the dryer. If you fail to do the preparation (especially to empty the lint filter), the dryer could start burning. Do not put anything into the dryer that could bash against the drum.
  • Forgotten Laundry: If someone forgot their laundry in the washing machine or in the dryer, you may put it into a container next to the washing machine. If there is no container, you may also throw it onto the ground. However, do not put it on the drying rack, as it will fall apart over time.
  • Sink: Never store anything in the sink next to the washing machine.
  • Showers: After you showered, open at least one window. Also make sure that the radiator is off.

BiMi

  • We have a Ministry of Beer (German “Bierminister”, short “BIMI”), who buys drinks for the floor from the GeMa (a HaDiKo work group which buys them from the retailer or directly the producer) and manages the payment. Currently, the BIMI is ELIAS E406. These drinks are then put in the BIMI-Regal (the rack in the kitchen with the crates in it).
  • How To Take a Drink: Simply grab a bottle and make a mark in the corresponding tablet (on the blackboard across the door). Make your mark before you start to drink! (This way it is more unlikely to forget making a mark.)
  • Types of Drinks: If you have special wishes for a new type of drink, just talk to the BIMI.
  • How to Pay: Please pay per cash direktly to the BiMi or via PayPal in the app, when your depths exeeds 30€. If you want to help the floor, consider holding negative dephts.

Storage Rooms

  • We have two storage rooms with different rules
  • Storage next to the Bathroom: This storage is for floor stuff only. Don't put your stuff here. You can find usefull equipment here (e.g. cleaning stuff, toolbox, vacuum cleaner)
  • Storage next to the P-wing: This storage is for the bimi and private stuff only. The bimi can store drinks in here. Everybody else can store medium size stuff here. Label your stuff with your room number, so it can be matched. The storage room is for everyone! So only put your medium sized essentials in here instead of using it as your private storage room.

FAQ

  • Is this really necessary? All these rules are obvious: Every single rule was regularly violated in the past.
  • But at home I never needed to do any of this. Why should I start now? Can’t you all just chill? You may not know this but at home your momma did all these things. Just because you never paid attention to your mother doing these things doesn’t mean they weren’t done. Also you are a horrible human being for disrespecting your own mother like that. She worked her ass of to make you feel comfortable and you didn’t even notice. Shame on you!

Floor Duty

Floor duty means taking out the trash. There is always one person responsible. Look at the sign labeled “Flurdienst / Hall Duty” for details or the points below

  • Return service to the last person if the “end of the week” part has not been done and there is still a lot in one of the bin bags

Daily in summer/every 3 days in winter

  • Empty organic waste[2] (yes, even if it is not yet full)
  • If other bin liners are full, empty these too

At the end of the week[3]

  • Organic waste
  • Residual waste
  • Recyclable waste
  • Paper waste
  • Glass waste
  • 3 bins in the bathroom (-> residual waste)

  3. ↑ frühestens am Sonntag nach Dienstbeginn

Substitute Work

  • If you clean both ovens, the microwaves and the stoves you can skip floor duty one time. This can be done in the first week of any given month by one volunteer. For getting credit, take a before and after picture and send it in the group chat. If this is your first time cleaning the ovens, ask someone who has done it already to get important information and tips. The goal of this is that the ovens, stoves and microwaves get cleaned every month, so please take the chance of this substitute work.

Floor Tax

The current land fee is €4.50 per month. The following is paid from the floor fee:

  • Washing up liquid detergent
  • General cleaning products (e.g. sponges)
  • Spices, onlions and garlic
  • Stuff we want to buy for the hallway
  • The Rundfunkbeitrag[1]
  • Possible repair of the washing machine etc.
  1. ↑ Flurmitbewohner können sich als "Mitbewohner" beim Beitragsservice melden
